DIRECTING  |  DESIGN  |  DRAMATURGY 

Sometimes I direct my own work. Sometimes I don't feel the urge. It depends on whether I sense my job as a writer is finished with what is on the page. When I do direct my own work, there is some element of physicality/gesture, or video/audio design, or staging elements I wish to explore. This experience in directing, dabbling in design, and functioning as my own dramaturg -- has led to collaborations with artists from other disciplines, like graphic design or choreography -- where I serve as a combination of an "outside eye" or "dramaturg" or "technical director" in service of the primary artist. I also work independently as a director of other playwrights' work.
